Chevel Francis, celebrating her DAISY award as an extraordinary nurse.

Meet Chevel Franics

The best part of being a nurse.

I really enjoy making a difference. It's a wonderful feeling! I know that, every day when I go to my job, I am expected to make someone smile, to make someone feel better.

I enjoy everything about being a nurse. But more than anything else, it makes me feel good to help other people feel better. To me, that's the best part of being a nurse: caring for others.

My proudest moment…

Winning the DAISY Award, which is meant to honor healthcare workers who provide exceptional care.

I had a nonverbal trach and bed patient, and it was a really hard time for him and his spouse. She thought that people don't really talk to nonverbal patients at all. But every time I cared for him, I would always communicate and express interest in him, explaining to him, “Hey, I'm doing this. I'm gonna touch you right there.” Little things like that. And he would use his eyes to communicate.

When they could come in, his wife would always ask, “Can we please get Chevel?” It made me feel good.

A heart full of gratitude.

Being at MedPro is a wonderful journey so far for me. In every part of my journey, they provide a “cushion” for me. For example, when I have any certificate to be renewed, they remind me. I feel like they provide a good backbone.

I've been supported by my colleagues, everyone I work with, and I know how to provide that same level of support to them. I got a lot of comments from my colleagues that, when I work, they really enjoy it because they feel supported. And that's what I want!
